This list was compiled by two people , with very different college experiences; one spent a lot of time in the library, the other spent a lot of time socialising! As in all things in life, balance is so important. So here’s a balanced list of top 10 things we wish we had been told!
- Tutorials are really beneficial – go to them!
- All the information you need is in the library too – visit it!
- The social life is great but it can take over – remember the balance!
- The friends you make in college will probably be your same friends in 10-15 years time so choose wisely.
- Nobody knows where they’re going, even if they look like they do!
- Take your head out of a book/iPhone and look up. Connect with the moment and others.
- Mature students will always have the notes, know where everything is, remember deadline dates – get to know them. They’ll love your youthful exuberance, you’ll love their experience.
- Join as many societies/clubs as you can – even if you have only a mild interest.
- Expect to feel lonely, overwhelmed and excited in equal measure, it’s part of the experience and will make you a rounded, self-reliant adult.
- ‘Tip away’ at your assignments, essays and assessments. The weeks go crazy fast and, before you know it, it will be hand in time!
- One extra for good luck: Woody Allen put it best when he said “Seventy percent of success in life is showing up”
Good luck in college and your studies
